There's an old saying, "Give a man a fish, and you'll feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you've fed him for a lifetime." There's an important life lesson in that simple statement.
Most people take for granted where their next meal is coming from, and as the world starts to consider this more, The Cayman Islands Agricultural Society will have the opportunity to change the world around them.
In the 21st century, environmentally friendly farming methods that preserve ecological balance by working to avoid the depletion of natural resources is paramount. Learning how to farm sustainably is key to assuring that the world has the food and fibers it needs to survive for centuries to come. The world must be able to meet the hunger needs of today’s population without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs.
In order to provide safe, wholesome and affordable food for Island families the Cayman Islands Agricultural Society (CIAS) embarked on an ongoing goal of studying and applying practices of economic and environmentally sustainable management of resources and production. The CIAS works along with other agencies in organising and promoting field days, demonstrations, experiments, competitions and educational activities benefiting the Cayman society.
